Self Worth vs. Net Worth
Behind the Hard Hat Podcast with Chace Barber.

In the latest episode of Behind the Hard Hat, I sat down with Chace Barber from Edison Motors. One of the themes that surfaced was presence and gratitude. The simple but radical act of being thankful for what you already have.
Chace reminded us that money isn’t everything. In fact, the items we purchase in pursuit of more often end up creating more stress than freedom. The bigger house, the newer truck, the status symbols… they can quietly start to own our attention, our time and our peace.
Money does give us real opportunities. It can buy safety, better tools, education, experiences and a sense of security. But it’s still a trade off. Every dollar, every hour, every unit of energy we spend is a vote for what we value. Where you consistently place your time, energy and money shows the universe, and yourself, what you actually prioritize.

This brings us to a deeper question, self worth versus net worth.
How do you value yourself?
What beliefs do you carry about what you deserve to own, experience or become?
There’s an old truth that the things we think we own often end up owning us. When we operate from a materialistic mindset, our possessions begin to dictate our choices. We protect them, worry about them, compare them and sometimes sacrifice our presence and relationships for them. The external starts to define the internal.
True self worth has to be cultivated from within. It requires the willingness to release outdated habits and beliefs that are no longer in alignment with who we are becoming. Sometimes that means letting go of the need to prove our value through what we accumulate. Sometimes it means examining the quiet stories we still carry about scarcity, status, or “not enough.”

Our greatest resource is not what we own.
It is who we are.
Prosperity grows every time we have the courage to be authentic. When we stop performing and start living in alignment with our core values, something shifts. Opportunities that match our real priorities begin to appear. The energy we put out becomes cleaner and more magnetic.
Invest in your dreams, but start with the foundation: your own sense of worth. Abundance begins long before it reaches your bank account. It begins the moment you truly believe you are deserving and significant. Not because of what you produce or possess, but because of who you are.
So here’s the question I want to leave you with:
Am I living from my worth, or am I still trying to prove it?
